Il genitivo Sassone



Il genitivo sassone esprime il complemento di possesso: indica quindi l'appartenenza di qualcosa a qualcuno.

Struttura

Gli elementi che compongono il genitivo sassone si susseguono in questa sequenza:

nome del possessore + 's + persona o cosa posseduta

My friend's bicycle
La bicicletta del mio amico



Quando il sostantivo termina per s (ad esempio se è un plurale) si aggiunge solo l'apostrofo omettendo la s:

The boys' toys
I giochi dei ragazzi





Quando ci sono più possessori e il possesso è comune il genitivo sassone si applica solo all'ultimo:



Tom and Jerry's adventures

Utilizzo


Il genitivo sassone si utilizza:

per indicare una relazione di possesso (quando i possessori sono persone o animali)

Il gomitolo del gatto è sotto la sedia

per indicare una relazione di parentela, di amicizia ecc...

Il padre di George

per indicare caratteristiche fisiche o morali

In alcuni casi il genitivo sassone non viene utilizzato. Al suo posto è invece obbligatoria la preposizione of:

in riferimento a cose inanimate

per indicare una quantità

con termini come top, bottom, side, front, back

I lati di una casa

L'uso di "some", "any", "no" e dei pronomi
"one-ones"


Some, Any e No rientrano nella categoria degli aggettivi e dei pronomi indefiniti e traducono termini come qualche, alcuni, alcune, un po', del, della, dei, degli, delle.

I composti di no si utilizzano quando nella frase non sono presenti altre negazioni:

I composti osservano le stelle regole di some, any e no e richiedono il verbo alla terza persona singolare:

C'è qualcuno alla porta



One - Ones



In inglese un aggettivo non può mai stare da solo, senza un sostantivo o un pronome. Per evitare di ripetere un nome lo si sostituisce con il pronome One per i sostantivi singolari e Ones per i sostantivi plurali.
